2014 Florida Vacay

So we go to Florida...a lot.

I mean, the hubby's sister does live there; and his parents belong to the Disney Vacation Club. So, why not? I would rather go to Florida than to nowhere. :-) Here are some highlights from our summer vacation.

We first flew into Orlando and spent a few nights at his sister's apartment. She lives in a great location near to Universal (where she works), but not too far from the Disney properties either. We still had Disney passes form our previous trip over Thanksgiving, so we spent some time each morning at some of the parks. Our oldest daughter is quickly becoming a huge Disney fan. She loves the rides, she loves the princesses, and she loves the parades. Daughter number two also had a pretty good time this trip. However, in my opinion, she is still a little young to really enjoy Disney.

My favorite day of this trip was definitely when the hubby and I left the girls with their grandparents and set off on our own, for an ENTIRE day. A whole day of just the two of us. I cannot remember the last time we had a whole day to ourselves. It was magical. We went to Epcot and had so much fun exploring, snacking, shopping, trying out some of the rides, and just goofing off together.

Next we headed out to Disney's Vero Beach resort. It was really nice and we had a lot of fun there too. More of the hubby's family met us for the beach portion of the trip and the girls got to spend the week with their youngest cousin - who is the cutest. (I LOVE being an Aunt).

The beach is one of my favorite places to go, but it was a TOTALLY different experience with two small children than I ever experienced growing up. :-D They get sand EVERYWHERE. And it is hard to clean off. I even read up about it before the trip and took baby powder with me. (The most recommended strategy for sand removal). It did help some, but it didn't help enough.

After our first trip to the beach we rinsed as much sand off at the pier as we could - there were still buckets worth of it hiding in places that I didn't think to check - and then headed straight to the bath in our condo for a second attempt at sand removal. While attempting to not recreate the beach in our bathroom I started stripping bathing suits and trying to contain the sand in a trash can. I successfully got daughter number one in the tub, but before daughter number two could be wrangled she had a big ol' poop...right on the floor. (Ugh. Thank you Jesus for tile floors in the bathroom). Awesome. We cleaned it up. We cleaned the girls up. We got everyone out, and dry, and clothed (with #2 safely diapered). Then I went to collect dirty towels from the bathroom and realized that even though the girls were clean the sand had just been transferred to the bathtub. Sand is the most wonderful and terrible thing.

The beach with littles is a mess, but we still had a blast, and we even braved the beach again a couple of times - just with a different exit strategy.

After Vero Beach we headed back to Orlando for a few nights and got to spend them in a Disney resort courtesy of the Vacation Club Membership. Our eldest got to meet Anna and Elsa and a variety of other princesses and characters - we even ate breakfast in the castle one morning. We all had a really great time and it is a vacation that we will not soon forget.
